Thanks for the comments ... looks like with a darker towel and slightly faster shutter speed this could work better. I haven't practiced much with manual shutter settings.

If I'd only spent less time (figuratively) twiddling my thumbs and more setting up the shot ...

I like the little spike of high votes disrupting the "normal" curve : )

I know you wanted the thumb blurred but the whole think is really soft.

I love the idea, but find it hard to look at since there isn't anything that is clear and in focus.

You might be slaughtered by the votes for being dingy, out of focus and noisy or you may not. I don't like to try and predict. However, this is stunning and I especially like the way the thumbs disapear against the bacground. Definitely one of the best from this challenge.

more contrast and this would be great

Interesting image and good idea. I feel, however, that the thumbs, particularly the left one, are too motion-blurred.

The photo comes across as blurry and low contrast. Increasing the contrast between the background and the subject might have been all that was needed to improve.

You may want to increase the contrast in PhotoShop or in your camera. It's always good to have really white whites and really dark (as close to black as possible) in your B&W shots. There's a tiny bit of black in the lines around the fingers, but it's good to try to create some sort of visual balance between your lights adn your darks. This is unfortunately too light and there is a bit too much noise. You may want to try to set your ISO at the lowest possible.

Seems a tad washed out to me, I had the same idea though.

Very artistic! This image will get overlooked because people dont respect good abstracts when they see them. I can picture this image framed and hung in several places. Nice work!

II feel funny critiqueing anything as new to this as I am, but the site seems to encourage it. I like the concept here, but it took me a minute to understand that you were capturing a motion blur. If the thumbs were more visible and if there was less white in the photo, I think I would like it better. Maybe a contrasting background.

I actually thought of doing this for the challenge but couldn't figure out how to show the actual motion of twiddling. I see you also went for the motion. It appears that the thumbs have nearly dissappeared entirely...i guess that's what happens when you twiddle too long? :)
