This is, hands down, my favorite SP on the site because it rings true.

...I always come back to this shot.

What a flattering portrait! I love the lighting and presentation. It not only has a lot of character, it has a lot of technical photographic merit as well. Great job!

So, you’re a hat maker during the night and a photographer during the day? ha ha. Superb photo very sharp and nice neutral background so it doesn't take away from you. One thing that I wish was not there is the light reflection in the right eye, since the eye is in the shadows that light reflection really become noticeable. Still, excellent photo!

Composition: 8, Very nice composition. I enjoy the cropping out of some of the face and hat, and it makes the shot feel more lively than perfectly centered portraits
Technical: 8, Excellent (and important) catchlight on both eyes.
Appeal: 8, Great balance of light and shadow
Challenge: 9
Overall Calculated Average Score: 8, Good overall focus too

Returning for comment:
This is a stunning rendition of a novel self portrait. The angle is just great and where did you get that hat? The lighting here is one of the most outstanding in the challenge because great and expert attention has been paid to the lower zones. I mean, the eye in the shadow is allowed to a fair play. The focus is razor sharp and last but not least, the expression bespeaks of a friendly character study. Great skills. Bumping up.

nice hat - I like the angle of your face, but the darkness on the right side of the face is hard to deal with.
