Makes me hungry looking at it (LOL)
Lighting is too harsh on top of the bagel and is blown-out. Decent color level without being over-saturated. Photographically speaking, the main subject in the dead center hurts the composition. ((5))

Details are a bit out of focus. Lighting is too harsh, and composition is a bit boring. I would have to be really hungry to find this one very interesting, but keep trying.

This is your best photo? It's centred, the top is blown out, and it really does lack visual interest. Better light would help this alot, as would a nice simple plate and solid colour surround. The small DOF doesn't help, either. A tripod and a smaller aperture would work wonders. It's not all bad though, the reds and browns of the bread do work well with the greens of the salad.

The first challenge with this shot is the focus. It looks like you were too close for your AF to lock properly. Step back about 2 paces and try again. That particular DOF choice isn't doing much for this shot. The biggest thing here is controling light. THe light used is way too hard. You can see the reflected light on the bagel. You can use some simple things around the house (Nylons, papertowels, paper) to help diffuse the light and get you a better quality of light. You also might want to think of background. Putting this on a sheet of white paper would help emphasize the subject, and prevent you from being distracted by things like the plate.

in a weird way, this is making me hungry! i hope this isn't getting overlooked in this super-sized challenge, and that you are getting good feedback. i do think the lighting is a bit harsh, but controlled lighting is one of the toughest aspects of photography to master. thanks for sharing. good luck with this, and all the challenges yet to come!

Hehehe, Look, to be honest, I'm not really sure why you think this is your best photo of the year. I'm sure you have taken something better than this.

Best of luck in 2005.

It's very difficult to make food look appetizing in photographs- this doesn't do it for me. The lighting is harsh and the subject is relatively uninteresting. Nothing about this photo grabs me.

Ok this made me hungry, off for a bagel :)

hehe...

not enough depth of field for my taste
01/16/2005 06:32:27 PM
would have benefited from greater depth of focus

The alfalfa sprouts are distracting and the window lighting in the back isn't helping the image either.

In my opinion, less harsh light, and a slightly greater DoF would have improved this shot.

Not to appetizing and harsh lighting.

......... Why? Just.... why?
What do you find so absolutely amazing about this photo that it would be considered the best photo you took all year....
