"The Cut" is a strip of I-240 in Asheville, NC whree the road was basically cut out of the mountain. On this particular day, it was rainy and nasty, and just downright dreary.

I am stretching the challenge, here, and fully expect my score to show it, but I submitted because I thought this shot made me feel "despair" even though there is nothing really screaming "despair" in the shot.

Karma,
This is a lovely image, and black and white suits it well. For many years I lived in the mountains, and I remember how slippery the mountain roads could be, and treacherous with limited visibility. This provokes recollections of the feelings I had, when I had to drive in it.
I wouldn't have thought of it for despair, but ya know what? It works!
The composition works well with the roadway being on a diagonal and leading into the distance. The trees lining the road support that.
Focus is fine for the type of picture....fog, rain, mist. None of it is crystal clear.
OVerall I like this. Very moody. Good job!
Regards,

Grayce

Great photo, Karma! I have probably been in your "Despair". I can't remember if I have been on I-240 or not. I have been around Ashville, though.

Checking these photos out is more fun than CP. Just have to learn my way around.

The sky seems a little blown out here especially to the middle right side just above the trees. It looks very rainy there, that sure is despairing! Good luck.

This is one of the few landscapes that captures the challenge. Good composition and tonal depth.

Very nice black and white photo. I know it is a difficult shot with fog and rain. Just a little sharper for my tastes. Still a 7 to me

I don't see the relation with despair. Extremely well shot though. 5/10 because it really doesn't mean the challenge to me. Otherwise, 8/10 for the photo.
