I leaned the bike against the wall of an old barn to shoot the full wheel. I decided on the crop primarily because the bike has carriers for shopping, which were confusing and did not fit the composition. Hence the tighter crop. I adjusted levels, contrast and unsharp mask. I reduced the saturation to the minimum, rather than changing the mode, in order to create the black and white.

Good composition. The background works well.

I like this concept of spokes casting outward to the frame, but found myself looking at the chipped paint in the background rather than the derailer which seemed beaten up either by use, poor lighting, focus or simply having been off center and not tighly enough shot. I can see technology of some kind here as it seems mechanical and somewhat old, but the distraction of the rest of the focal points seems to easily outweigh its statement.

Extra point for not spelling it the French way! I think they spell it "dix vitesse" (Ten Speed) ;-)

As a cyclist, I'm drawn to this image. I think the B&W conversion was great, and it's wonderfully sharp. I think it might have been nice to get it further away from the wall before shooting. The peeling paint is competing to steal my attention.

a fill in flash might have helped detail the rings better

maybe a tighter shot of the gears, with some side lighting from the left, i like the cracked b/g

Nice detail. At first glance I didn't like the peeling paint background, but it works well with the beat up paint ofn the bike frame. Good luck...
