Nikkor 18-70mm 3.5-4.5G lens. Camera on tripod with self-timer. Mixed lighting: natural window light (you can see the window reflected in the spoon) and tungsten light from chandelier.

It was Thanksgiving dinner at my mom and dad's house, and Mom had the table set. I noticed she had some decorative bouquets of wheat with--surprise!--SEVEN heads of wheat each. So I decided it was meant to be that I should enter this in the challenge. ;-) My main challenge was trying to emphasize the primary subject, the wheat bouquet, but still include the other elements that I thought added to the atmosphere. I'd like to have cropped it a little tighter, but I didn't want to cut off part of the dessert fork.

Processing in GIMP 2.2-pre2.
Converted from RAW with UFRaw, where curves were adjusted.
Neat Image.
Capture sharpening: USM (0.3/1.45/0) applied in LAB color space.
Cropped.
Scaled.
Output sharpening: slight USM (radius 0.1).

Very shaky link to the challenge, but hey! it looks good. I don't like the plate in the upper right corner and the reflections in the spoon. I appreciate how you show a source of food, the wheat, and the plate as symbol for the wait for food. The viewer has to imagine what's between. Even if you didn't mean to show that ;)

i think the table set actually distracts from the theme and draws more attention than the wheat.

I like the colours and the lighting but I find the composition could be improved.

Maybe a little less DOF would have served this subject better and put the focus more on the garnish, overall though very nice, inviting warm tones. Can we come over for dinner?

I am not really understanding how this is 'seven of something' maybe I'm misled by the challenge description. I am not enjoying the angle or the tight cropping. Lighting is good.

Unfortuneatly, I'd have to say that the main subject of this photo is the plate, not the plant. It's hard to see it as the main subject.

I think you could have possibly cropped to only the wheat, knife, & spoon and still had an effective photo. Good job though!
