I was inspired by photography in high school. While going through some old photos my dad took for a college course, I found a matted 8"x10" photo of me at the age of two. An incredibly serene expression on my face was contradicted by soggy, shimmering eyes and a single tear on the apple of my cheek. When I asked him about it, he told me I started crying my little eyes out when my mother got out of the car to go run an errand. He said he took that photo the moment I saw her coming back to the car. It was then that I realized photography was about more than snapping a picture.
As I said, that's when I was inspired. However, interest, not inspiration, is really all that's required to get involved, right? I developed a healthy interest in -- well, OK, a sick obsession with -- photography as a little girl. Promise not to laugh? I so badly wanted to take pictures as a kid that I would arrange my dolls and stuffed animals on my bed, take a bunch pictures of them, get double prints and and send them to my relatives. (Did I just hear a snicker?) Some think it's fortunate that I don't have kids yet, but there's still time, and I still love photography. Hehehe. :-)
I have never been fortunate enough to take a photography class, and I don't know a great deal about the technical side of photography, but upon my husband's insistence that I have a good eye for it, I'm exploring a new hobby and hope to learn lots of new things here! |
