 Shot in color using my new studio lights. Achieved the high-key effect in three steps: 1) Converted to B&W using Channel Mixer with some high settings on Red and Green, and 2) Using levels, I kept both the bottom and middle selectors close together for high contrast to keep the dark colors dark and force everything else light (48, 3.46 and 203), then 3) used USM which not only sharpened the image by caused some of the light/dark transitions to be more pronounced.

Very nice. A tight crop such as this is a welcome addition to a challenge full of clunky backgrounds. I'm not sure whether the grain is helpful to the image or not. Jury is still out. His hair looks a little strange, though I imagine it's the nature of the exposure and the post-editing that was done. All in all, a strong and emotive image. 8

If you like this shot, that is all that matters but personally I think you went a little overboard with the contrast. Still a good shot, but IMO only slightly above average (and that is not bad, there are a lot of good shots in the challenge) 6

I feel this would of been better without the over saturation/contrast. the subject matter is very good but i think the post processing lets this image down.. pity really the crop is good too.
