I don't remember Lawton Oklahoma being this beautiful. I did my basic training at Fort Sill and all I remember is the dust, the tornados, and being yelled at by a drill sargent....amazing picture |

This is an amazing picture.
I think that this deserves a blue ribbon as much as photom's Shifting Sands. The color, detail, lighting, depth, and every other aspect of this picture are just incredible. |

Lovely photo - slight problem with horizon as sky burnt in and over the horizon making the smoke drifting stand out too much

I'm afraid I have to agree with Jon. I voted this shot down as in my mind the ground simply doesn't match the sky. |

Oh wow! This is gorgeous! No doubt you deserved a ribbon with this!!! It's so ethereal... are you sure you didn't go to Africa or someplace more exotic for this shot? *grin* |

Beautiful shot! I was stationed there for Artillery School in 1980 and you've captured the landscape wonderfully. |

I hate to spoil the party here (which I probably won't), but I think you're mighty lucky that this is no. 2 or even in the top 20! While a nice scene this is transparently over processed to the point of confusion. There really is a massive imbalance in the sky related to the ground so that they look divorced from each other.
Seems to me that this kind of editing is in vogue here now but it's not the photo that's winning for you here but Photoshop edits that appeal to gimmick fans (despite starting out with a healthy shot). I like your other work but this is a step in the wrong direction despite the result.
No offence intended, just a [strong] opinion on this kind of stuff. |

This reminds of an image straight out of Lord of The Rings... there is so much going on this shot... between the clouds, the break in the clouds and the smoke below... very nice. |

This is a good idea, with good composition but the clouds give a mood that is a bit dark, and the rocks and tree seem a bit soft. The light on the horizon is perfect, both in color and placement. |

Hard to find anything to criticize. You have a very interesting foreground from left to right with a nice range of colors. The sky is breathtaking and just seals the deal. Wonderful photo! |
