Thanks all for your kind comments!
The image was made at sunrise at the dunes located just east of Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley. Death Valley is about a 7-hour drive for me - I try to get there at least once every winter. I went early this year - returning from a longer trip to the national parks of Utah.
NOTE: The request for proof page would not work for some reason, apparently related to the image size. When I tried to send the original, I kept getting "This Page is Not Available" error. The original image was only 2.34 meg - so that should have been ok. Ben (Konador) suggested I e-mail the original to him and he would notify the rest of the SC. Then, also at Ben's suggestion, I submitted a smaller version as the proof file. |

Congratulations on the blue ribbon, It's a very good photo. I see that you got two ones, I got 4 ones and I don't understand why many of the top photos in this challenge got one!

One of the best photos in this challenge. Love the shapes and lines. The abstractness and colour of the image are just superb. It almost looks unrealistic dreamscape. Love it. |

Reminds me of the Sahara. Very nicely captured. I like the composition, especially the negative space and the way the flow of the sand guides my eye around. Stark contrast between sand and mountains works well for me. Focus is excellent throughout. I love the detail of the sand in the shadow in the center of the photo. My only nit, and it's minor really, is that I would have cloned out two spots on the image ... one in the lower left corner and one just below the ridgeline of the sand about 20% in from the left. This is among my top picks this challenge. |

FANTISSIMO!! colours are so exotically gorgeous. the landscape is so so dramatically dramatic. i can't decide if i would have cropped just below the light blue sky though... no i like the mountains being defined. this is a great shot - only slight criticism is that it looks almost too perfect (the rich blue behind the golden sand looks too superb). this is a great landscape picture. 10. |

This image is really great. I love the simplicity of the deep blue sky and the yellow sand. It looks quite neatimaged and soft.. and i think it is a bit overdone... but it is still a very nice image, with great abstract shapes. |

Holy crap! This should be in an art gallery or hung on my living room wall as a poster. extremely artistic - beautiful expression and drama - love the lines - love the balance, the composition, the negative space - the colours are just out of this world. I'm rooting for this to win! 10 |

Just amazing!! Absolutely gorgeous! Love the way how you have framed the image with the background looking like this patch of dark blue and the sky behind it. The person walking up on the right isn't too clear in this small version, but I am sure it adds to the image as well.
( I just wish that little greyish looking cloud wasn't there :))
Excellent work. All the best. |
