Very nice scene and shot. However, thee's a lot of JPEG noise in the sky--make sure you are using as little compression as possible. Also, there's a halo around the building and above the horizon either from oversharpening or other editing. It's not terriibly noticeable to the average quick voter, but when you try to enjoy the scene at length, it gets in the way. Still excellent shot and one of my top picks for this challenge.
Edit: Sorry, I just noticed my typo! (Hold rather than Halo!)

hmm.. I'm wondering why on earth you got a DQ request for this?
This is a nice find.. I like the look of desolation, and the black and white works well with it too. The only issue is that the halo around the building distracts me a bit, but nothing major :) |

Lovely image a building. The picture is well composed and balanced. However this is an international challange, and without the tittle I would not have known that this was a school.
You have obviously kept exactly to the instruction and I recognise and reward this. My observation is to try and think of what other may see if they were raised and live in other countries. Or add something else to the image portray the message.
As a photograph it is beautiful, and I can't believe you have been asked to validate this.

| I think it's a bit too contrasty. There's also a strange halo around the building. Neat looking old building though. Might like to see more of the wide open space around it to better feel the isolation. 5, just-married |

This is a great subject and you've captured it fairly well. I find it a bit too contrasty and I can't help wondering if color wouldn't have been a better choice. I love black and white but I feel lke an expanse of blue sky and golden green fields would add a bit more warmth and visual contrast. Part of my problem is the cold bluish cast to the black and white. This is crying out for warmer greys---not necessarily sepia (although in this case sepia would be appropriate) just something a little less duotone looking.
Hi there again! After realizing that I've left a few comments for b&w photos regarding the bluish cast (and noticing it on my own b&w entry) I took a look at the grayscale bar and realized the greys there have a definite bluish cast so it is obviously the monitor on my laptop! I did my entry on my other computer and it definitely did not look blue) Please disregard my comments regarding this. :-D |

| One of my favorites in the challenge. I personally would have liked it a little better with a softer focus, but I know those just don't do well at DPC, so I didn't deduct points or anything. Good luck with your entry. |

| Interesting photography good emotive black and white but there is some halo around your object probably due to overuse of shadow and highlight in cs or high pass sharpening. (7) |
