Smoke from a nearby fire created a surreal environment for taking pictures. This is the sun from my office in Sacramento, CA. Taken at about 09:30 PST. This picture was taken with my Nikon D100 through a 24-85 f/3.5-4.5G ED lense with a HOYA Polarizing filter set to max in Nikon RAW format (12-bit) lossless, converted to JPEG and resized. No other modifications were made to the image.

What is the subject? What should the eye focus on? Is it compelling enough to merit a picture?

I guess I'm lost here from the beginning with the subject. It doesn't hold my interest. On my monitor, which I routinely calibrate, I can see exactly three colors: Black, White; and a mid tone. These don't allow for any texture (except in silhouette) which would hold my interest. Sorry, it's just an opinion. Hope others comment to give you a broader view.

I found the main subject to be too centered. Also, it is not black, so what is it?

Nice, I like nightshots. it's not extraordinary but still a nice photo. Moon is a bit blown out.
