Critique Club Comments by Grayce M. Dillon aka Gracious
This is a humorous image. Most married people can relate...lol Is that an Oreo cooke??
The exposure is good....and the effect works well. The sign looks dwarfed next to the giant tire...as you intended. The sign looks very realistic, and looks like it is really in the ground, but that would mean a really giant tire.
I don't know how you did it but it looks real.
The white spots on the tire don't seem to fit. Looks like milk...lol. I guess that's why the tire reminds me of an Oreo.
Composition is very good.

Thanx to all the commenter and voters.
I have to admit that I was not very excited about the topic of this challenge. Therefore I thought: lets make a funny submission. Maybe this time my humor is understood. It seemed that it worked well enough.
Here is how I made the shot:
I took the spare-tire out of one of our cars and cleaned it. I also took a concrete-plate from the garden and cleaned it too. I did bend a nail, did cut it just below the bended part and glued the printout of a stop sign onto it. Arranged everything in my livingroom, sprayed the tire with water and made the shots. Not that the nail is not nailed into the cement, the sign is just laying there.
I needed the water, because otherwise the upper part would be only dark without contrast. Actually I wanted to roll the tire over the sign to make a picture similar to "Swish" (//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=6897), but the tire was simply too heavy. Setting the light was a problem too, so after some time I gave up and took the best I had for my submission, knowing that technically it could have been done better.

From the thumbnail it was fantastic. The black tire looked like it was out in infinity with the road appearing to be the edge of the earth. And the sign like she had mowed right thru it. In the big photo it look like a white speckled tire sitting on a small play stop sign. I lost of of the illusion it had in the small shot. The thumbnail was a 10. This one is harder to score. The white spots on the black tire are very disturbing and the shadow of the tire cutting off part of the "stop sign" looks too fake. The focus is ok, the framing is nice, and the lighting is rather good. But I just can seem to score it fairly for what it is. This may all just be my personal problem, so I will give it a 5 in fairness to you. I hope you tell us exactly how you did this shot. |

Very funny! Good simple graphic shot. Concept executed well. The tire texture and very bright pavement dominate the image. Overcast or shadow conditions would yield less harsh tones and allow more visual voice to the sign perhaps ( just a thought ). Nice shot. |

Very funny photo - the sign is very realistic. What's on the tyre though? Is it water? Composition is good an focus is good - well done. |
