This is very nicely constructed. It has a real feel of frenetic desperation and impermanence to it. I like the toning, the bokeh is excellent, it works well with the gestalt of the novel.

I like the coloring of the photo, but the photo lacks overall interest to me.
This doesn't seem fitting for Lord of the Flies to me. Just a photo of a kid in the woods holding sticks.

(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)
A six for you. I'm feeling generous. I love the movie (though I've never gotten all the way through the book) so maybe I'm a tad biased. The boy should be bare-chested, have war paint, and be carrying something more intimidating than a branch for this to really work. I do like the sepia treatment, the bokeh. |

| Have seen this book 3 or 4 times now, to me this is the best image to represent it. Love the light coming through the trees, the expression on the boy's face. Bump! |

i like the tone of the image, and have a lot of respect for the book, this just isn't jumping at me the way i'd hope it would
still worthy of a 6 though |

| Great idea. One finishing touch that would have put it over the top for me is some dirt on him (hands, arms, face). Looks too freshly scrubbed for the story theme. Still an 8 from me. Nicely done! |

| Effective visualization of the novel. The expression on the boys face, combined with the shadows and forms of the environment have the nightmare quality of the book as I remember it. Very well done. 9 |

| Great location and bokeh, maybe if you had the boy's shirt off and some tribal marking it would have added to the atmosphere. Toning is great, like the composition and his look supports the story. 7. |

| There is much to like here for me. I appreciate the technicals of nice bokeh, the duotone processing and lighting. I particularly like the subtle connections you have made to the book. The boy is blended as one with the forest but looks out of place. He has basic weapons and is looking behind in fear for the aggressive tribe of kids. At least this is what I feel from this image. 8 |

Maybe a preference thing, but I would have cropped out some of the upper left portion of the photo. The image is in monochrome, yet somehow it doesn't show much of a contrast.
I like the expression on the subject's face. The shot feels like it is part of bigger story, which suits the challenge well.

I understand why this is a popular book in this challenge; easier to stage.
Very good movement of the boy. The hunter being hunted. The quivering trees.

I like the color of this shot. The way he's looking over his shoulder. But I don't like the crop, leaves much to be desired. But the bokeh is nice, and there is a good focus.

| Nice lighting and eerie processing. Wish he was holding something a little more "substantial" and menacing in his hand, since Lord of the Flies was really about the barbarian lifestyle the children adopted in their primitive society. Right now, it's just a boy with a stick. |
