 I was shooting nuthatch, at Snaffles backyard feeder. After some time, a really loud call grabbed my attention. Two palliated wood pecker were quite close by. They were dancing around the trunks of the trees. Almost like a game of hide and seek. I yelled to Snaffles about the wood peckers. Then began to shoot. I was able to get to a close distance. As they were not paying any attention to me.
It was great! Snaffles watched as I shot. Sometimes watching and not shooting, can let you see more. As I did hear her laugh, more times then I did. Yeah, they put on a great show. Like a cat and a mouse. But taking turns on the role.

the bird is sharp but the background is highly distracting to make the bird stand out at all!

Gorgeous detail on that head!! I'm jealous. I can never get close to a Pileated Woodpecker :-(

Nice high contrast light on the subject shows off the texture of the feathers well. I am not too fond of the background.
