I like the thought behind this image. With a bit more clarity, this could have been killer. |

A little flat and soft. I don't go much on the 1:1 framing. |

The lighting is uneven and the background is too bright and draws the eye away from the focal point. If only part of the image is brightly lit then it needs to be the focal point. A lot of the foreground sprinkles are out of focus so you probably should have focused on a different spot or used a larger DOF. |

I like this one a lot. I kind of wish that the cupcakes behind were going off more at an angle instead of straight behind. I would be curious if it would have improved it, or just been different. I like what the dof does to the colors of the back cupcakes. The only nitpick is the area between the front two cupcakes -- I'd be curious what that would look like lighter. The shadow seems to be out of keeping with the bright, cheerful shot. All nitpicks, though. 7 for the photograph. +1 because what you did with the photograph really made me want the cupcake. There may be prettier desserts on here, but this one made my mouth water. -8- |

Voted earlier coming back to comment now.
Great details on the sprinkles and it adds such color to this tasty cupcake treat. There is just a slight issue with blown highlights/exposure on the top of the cupcake(s). The vanilla icing swirl on the forefront cupcake is perfectly illuminated until it reaches the top. On my monitor some of the top looses the defining 'edge' and blends into the white icing of the cupcake in the backdrop. The lighting might be a little too strong on the cupcakes in the backdrop - I mention this because I see it is really bright white down the center right half and it tapers off on the harsh light when you venture out in either direction from that area. Is is me or are these cupcakes in different containers? The main focus cupcake has a brown chocolate wrapper while the trimmed one on the right looks like it is in a plastic cup. The impact is subtle but it does create an imbalance in symmetry. I think it would improve the visual appeal if they both had the same colored wrapping to keep a balanced symmetry. |

They probably taste very good. Colors could be somewhat brighter. |

Nothing in this picture is clear especially the icing. What gives? |

DOF is very shallow, and you could use a little more light in the front |

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
Nice idea, but needs some work. It's could use a little sharpening. I don't mind the over-exposure, but would like to have seen more color in the whiter areas near the back. Also, the way you framed this up, the division between the two rows of cupcakes acts as a divider; if you had shot a little from the left, that line would have run diagonally, leading the eye through the image. |

I think the exposure is a little too high on this one |
