Your dessert looks delicious! Good choice of an interesting dessert. On the other hand, in judging this challenge I don't ask "Does this photo make me want to eat this?" I ask "Would I want to hang this on my wall?" In the cropping, your elements feel like they're pinched at the top but there's extra space on the left, right and bottom. The angle is too much from above and too much of the dessert is at the same distance from the camera so the image ends up lacking depth. The color temperate is a little too yellow.
I think this is one of the very best composed images in this challenge. It has great textures, good colors, interesting shapes, and is well balanced and cropped. The color balance seems a little on the red side. I think this image would have benefitted a lot from a single light source or a more interesting light source rather than what appears to be several overhead fluorescent rectangle lights.
This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
While I appreciate your efforts, I would encourage you to keep working at this, trying different compositions until you come up with one that really makes you want to grab a fork and dive right in. As is, that big, dark blob just scares me off.
There are a few problems with this shot. One of the biggest problems are the harsh highlights. If you're using natural light, you might want to hold up a white sheet in front of your light source. I don't know if it would fix it, but it might minimize it. Or simply work your angles to avoid the highlights.
The crop on the top and bottom is a little awkward. Since a small amount of the apple and the chocolate is cut off, it looks a little more like a mistake instead of a conscious decision. Many times it's better to take a bigger cut than just a tiny amount.
The color looks a tad off. Was your plate really a peachy pink, or was it leaning more towards the whites? You may have a color cast issue going on.
