Finally got a break in the rain today, so  Becky-Lee and I headed off to Goldstream Park. After two hours of wandering and shooting, we arrived back at the car...
Notice anything?
Yup...*sighhhh...* :(
They rifled through the car a bit, including the trunk but didn't steal anything, despite there being one tripod, two fishing rods and three camp chairs.
At least I got a chance at a sort-of artisticky-abstracty shot!
Ticks me off though...muttergrumblegrowl... :(

Glad nothing was stolen! All of that's just 'stuff' and it's a good thing the perp wasn't to look for people to mess with.

And the cops were soooo nice. Beck phoned from there to report it as a matter of routine. As we were nearly home (and a couple blocks from the police station) an officer phoned and asked if we were going to stop by. Beck asked if we needed to, he said no, only if we wanted. When she told him where we were he said he'd meet us in the parking lot then. He had a look, took some more info, said he was concerned that it had happened there in the middle of the day, and that they'd put some extra patrols through there.
I really didn't expect them to give a damn, and only reported it for their files, basically. Of course we ARE Canadian... :)

Dang that really sucks, sorry to hear about that. It's good to see you're in good spirits though and that they didn't take anything. Sorry about the window though. Maybe they were spooked by something and ran off without getting anything.
I can sympathise, my car was broken into a few years ago and they took everything... stereo, amps, sub, even my portable electric shaver I used on the way in to work. The whole dash was ripped apart too. These people suck. |

Hey Girl, sorry to hear about your car, that really sux arse, glad you two wernt around as it was most likely safer that way. Good to hear also the police were that good about it.

| You can beat them with your tripod when they catch them. I have to say though, your shattered glass makes one gorgeous shot though. |

My car was broken into a while back too. >:-(
There must've been two people, as both driver and passenger side door handles were pried open from below while the keylock was jammed and twisted, denting both doors and wrecking the keyholes. They took my stereo faceplate, and tore apart my dash trying, unsuccessfully, to get the guts of the stereo. Now only two of my four electric windows work. It's really disheartening, as I used to love the car, now it just makes me sad. I had the alarm system turned off when I bought it because I didn't want to annoy people with false alarms. It happened right in my driveway. Our neighbors on one side have a couple of pretty sketchy teens, with very sketchy friends, who've all done time in the back of police cruisers. I suspect some of their friends did it to impress each other.
I can't wait until they move away and their parents die.

Well, look on the bright side, they broke the smallest possible window and at least your car was there when you got back.
There is nothing more disheartening than coming out of work and finding your car missing, then getting a call from the police that they found it stripped and burning by the RR tracks.
If you ever find them, smack them a few times for me.

Oooh, reminds me of the time a lady I knew was robbed in her home.. The guys were masked and had knives... She recognized the thief as her neighbor's kid when he came back, with his parents, the next day.. He was wearing the same sneakers.. |

Yeah, as far as break-ins go, this was a good one. They're obviously experienced in smash-and-grab. They used a tool to pop the window quietly, took a small one on the side away from the entrance to the lot so they could watch for anyone driving in, and they worked quickly to look for small, easily concealed stuff.
An empty cigarette pack was on the floor, the tire gauge from the armrest storage was on the seat, and in the trunk a large bag of plastic bags bound for recycling was moved to see what was under it. That's it. I don't think they were even into the glove compartment.
My car only has a passive alarm, so it quietly submitted to the indignities, but at least they didn't hurt her too badly. |

It could have been worse. I left my car old car in front of my girlfriend's house one night and had left my tripod in the back on the floor. I woke with a call from my parent's asking if the car was there. They had gotten a call from the police saying our car had been left blocking an intersection and had been towed to a lot. When I went outside the car was gone and it had been stolen. It was stolen on a Saturday night and to get the car out of impound we had to pay an overnight holding fee and a "special" charge to get it out on a Sunday. It ended up costing over $300 dollars to take our car that was parked on the street outside the garage. It was in their possession for less than 8 hours. When we got our car it had been written all over, been in an accident and left in the middle of the street when the police came, the thieves ran off. When I went through the car, which had been totally ransacked the only thing stolen was my tripod. The car died about 3 weeks later and we had to donate it just to get rid of it. I am pretty sure the main reason it was broken into was the tripod. gotta love Oakland! :P |

Lucky you are in Victoria...for 'property crime' they don't give a damn here. Police around here do not show up for car break-ins/thefts, home break & enters, etc. unless you catch the theif in the act, or someone is assaulted. (statistics say crime is going down...I say people just don't bother reporting it any more) :-(
U're lucky the damage was minimal. Last time my car was broken into, they caused $1000 in damage by ripping the locks out of the doors with a screwdriver...ON BOTH SIDES! Either there was a team working on the car...or the guy was too stoned to realize he already broke into that car...either way, they did not take anything anyway... :-S
I know the frustration...nothing you can do...and even if they are caught a 'slap on the wrist' is the worst they will ever get. (no wait...they won't even get a slap on the wrist...that would be corporal punishment) ;-)

Arranged for repair today... I think next time I'll leave it unlocked!
That weeeee, tiny window will cost $428 to replace, which means $300 to me.
At least I don't have to make a separate insurance claim, as ICBC has "Glass Express" approved shops. So tomorrow my baby'll be feeling better :) |

I hate thieves! Glad you are ok and heck with that $300 maybe you could get a tripod worth stealing.

Yes, gotta PAY $300, will only get $128 from insurance. But hey, that's better than nothing :)
But yes, we WERE lucky on the whole, and thanks to all for the kind comments.
Oh, and Juliet...blush... I kinda like the shot :)

It might not if you incur an increase in premiums over the next few years. Mind you I am not familiar with the insurance provided in BC and I could be way off course on this one.

Maybe they were scared off when they saw your tripod, and thought that you may return in time to get a photo of them in the act. They were most likely looking for cash or pills that they could turn into cash easily.

No, it won't affect our premiums. We can have two claims before it makes ANY difference, and then it would only be a few dollars difference. (Roadstar Gold, maximum level). I be a good driver, and it pays! :) |

Yup, I think they were only looking for small, easily-concealable items, like cash, smokes, pills, Ipods and such, or something like a backpack that they wouldn't look conspicuous carrying away. |

It reminds of the time I had a box in the front passenger seat of my car. I was taking care of some friends� dogs, so I had parked it so I could take the animals for a walk and feed them. When I came back to the car 45 minutes later, the passenger side window had been smashed in and the box had been opened but none of the contents taken.
What was in the box, you ask? A whole bunch of church programs for the next days' service. |

My friend lives in a not-so-nice area and he has trained his dog (large German shepherd) to sleep in his garage and then he put a nice doggie door in the side door. Mind you, he leaves his car doors unlocked on purpose. On more than one occasion, the dog has woken him up and he's gone out to find people in his car, with the doors locked cowering from the dog. He calls the cops and the dog keeps them in the car.
What they don't know is that the dog will probably just lick them to death, but hey -- it works! |
