This is a great picture as a thumbnail, but when it is looked at in full you see that it loses a lot of it's focus. I think it is well composed and it has a lot of potential though. I know night shooting is difficult, did this have a tripod?

Well, you just commented on my photo, so I thought I would return the favor. I think this is a pretty cool shot and it has potential, but there are some things that I think I would change too. I am new to this whole digital photography thing though, so take these comments for what they are worth. Great idea with the train track, it has a lot of potential. I wish it was taken at a different time of day. Sunset or sunrise would be a little better, especially if you could get a nice reflection on the tracks. It would also make the sky look a little less washed out. I also do not like the building on the right hand side. It does not add anything to the picture. Some clouds or trees in the sky would create a little interest, etc... Just some friendly advice. Look forward to seeing more of your stuff in the future.

I also thought this was a great photo. In the Free Study, I would have easily given it an 8 or a 9 (Which is very high for me). As it was in candid challenge I gave it a 7, still pretty high. In a candid photo, I usually want to be able to see a face (or at least something that gives me a sense of feeling). This photo does that, but not in the same way I want a candid photo to do it. I feel a sort of loneliness here. To me it says that this man is alone and he wants nothing more than to do a simple crossword , but he wants people to be around him while he does it. Who knows though, maybe he is just waiting for his wife in the shoe store..... but that is not how it makes me feel. I guess I am rambling, which is a good thing cause I would not take the time to ramble over a picture i did not like. Do not be discouraged by the votes here, they mean nothing unless you are trying to appeal to the widest audience possible, which I do not think you are. As far as this competition though, I do feel the score was about right. Maybe a better photo than most, but not a better candid. Just my honest thoughts.
