Hopefully there are no fish or other wildlife living in that water. Most aquatic life are harmed by the metals leeched into the water over time. Aquatic snails in particular will die if there are any traces of copper.
The exposure is a bit blown out on the reflection of some coins, but aside from that it was okay. Lighting is a bit flat, but a decent photo anyways. Everyone likes to see a splash :-) |

I would have rated this photo an 8 or a 9 if it weren't for the desaturation of everything but green. It's a good use of the technique, but I don't like it at all, which is what resulted in the low aesthetics score. This is a personal preference, however. |

The ring is a little blown out as far as brightness/exposure is concerned. If it weren't for that I would have rated perfect for lighting, and 2 for aesthetics. Focus could have been a bit sharper on the chain for the ring. |

Black Cats Aren't Bad Luck...REALLY!by psquared40Comment: Meets Challenge: 1/1

Explanation: When I rate an image that is
below 3, I will offer an explanation.
Lighting: The flash is too bright and is too harsh on a subject so close to the camera. It is hard to get detail out of black fur, but is also too reflective for flash so close. The eye colour is blown out due to it being more reflective than anything else, as well some areas on the tongue.
Focus: The image is in focus.
Creativity: Seems more like a snapshot of a funny moment than something meant for a challenge.
Aesthetics: All of the above results in an overall uninteresting photo. It is a funny picture, and got a point for aesthetics because it was a nice "catch" so to speak, of the moment. |

The reflection could have been a little sharper for me, and more DOF to encompass the frame of the mirror. Good composition and placement of the subject. I might have liked to see the mirror not cut off at the very tip. But my eye is drawn to the reflection of the subjects eyes. Nice work. |

Glass Bead At Sunsetby 777STANComment: Meets Challenge: 1/1
Lighting: 1/2

Explanation: When I rate an image that is below 3, I will offer an explanation.
Lighting: The lighting is okay in concept. However, the image looks as though it was too dark in the original, so the exposure was cranked up in photoshop, resulting in muggy colours.
Focus: The entire image is a little blurred. A faster shutterspeed and some more light would help.
Creativity: It's just a bead, slightly off center and is overall unintersting. A photo like this can be quite nice if it meets all technical aspects perfectly. Perfect lighting, focus and framing can definately take a simple object and make it interesting.
Aesthetics: All of the above points, mostly the graininess, muggy colours, high saturation to the point of colour bleeding etc. make the image unappealing. Many product photos are faced with taking a simple object, and making it stunning. Photography can do this. It looks as if this was a crop of a large image not focused on this item in particular. If that's the case, try a lower iso (50 or 100). Also, external lighting can be helpful in closeups even at moody natural scenes with a sunset. Put a gel over a studio light, or even a lamp, that matches the main colour of the natural light. Bounce the light off of a white card and you can get some more light in your image without washing out the colours. |
