This is a very nice photo, the reflections from the water on the birds wing look rad. But I might suggest not to crop the bird so that it sits directly in the centre of the composition. Try extending the left and top of the image by about 1/5 of what you have there. I would use a levels adjustment on this too, make the midtones "1.30" and the black tones somewhere around "8" or "10". Just fiddle with the levels until the water on the left brightens enough to expose the egret's head even more. This would also look very cool as a B&W.

Great capture and looks pretty good considerring you havn't done any editing. I would've captured this at a really wide angle and then cropped to a more panormaic image. The composition is good, however something to give it that little bit more interrest would've been cool too, maybe some one fishing on the bottom right? Still, the rocks and palm trees are interresting enough.

It is an aswome picture, almost sureal. The shally DOF is deffinently a plus side of the image, focusing on the important part of the image. The only bad thing I can think of with a decomposing subject is, that you were too late and the image needed to be captured when the focus on the uglyness was more clear.

Define gothic for me please, seriously though, I know this will be underrated, they will say "it looks like a game". All that matters is you took a good photography. It is past 2:00 am where I come from as well, and I and quite the drunk. lol, it has taken me 5 minutes to write this comment. Good sense of contrast, texture, caputure. Not much in the way of depth though, 8.
