Glimmer of Hopeby AlexSaberiComment: Excellent light and excellent moment to hit the shutter. I'd rather that the focus were on the eyes instead of the nose but that's just nitpicking. What I have a real issue with is the framing. That's to say that even though I appreciate the sense of intimacy provided by such tight framing on the face, personally I'd like to see a more "environmental" approach so as to place the person and the photo's message/story in a [wider] context. I assume, judging by the clothing -particularly the headgear-, that he's an Afghan man, and I really think that showing more of his environment, or at least showing a bit more of him, would have strengthen even further what is already quite a powerful photograph in its own right. |

Stormy Earthby LevTComment: While the photograph as it is seems to be technically competent, even if not terribly interesting, I wonder if it wouldn't have been better had you focused just on the ground, where there apparently are awesome textures, shapes and forms right under your feet for you to explore and capture in great detail. |

Flying the Flagby WobbleComment: You pretty much nailed the panning part, and exposure seems ok even if a little bit underexposed. However composition/crop is too tight and, combined with the straight-on angle, effectively kills the sense of motion one expects to find in this type of photographs despite the presence of back-/foreground blur. |

Grinby dahkotaComment: One of the best animal portraits I've ever seen. But I'm afraid it takes a well-calibrated monitor for the viewer to appreciate the fine detail and textures in this photograph (I viewed it on both calibrated and uncalibrated monitors). I hope it doesn't get voted down because of this; that would be a shame! |

Flight by jemisonComment: What was I thinking giving this beautiful work only an 8? Bumping to 10! |

The Generalby jmsetzlerComment: The tight, clean composition, perfect exposure, spot on focus and unembellished post-processing without any gimmicks or visual interference bring out and emphasize the individuality of this gentleman and let the viewer not only catch a glimpse of his character but also almost literally hear him tell his stories. Simply excellent! |

Demolitionby RetinusComment: Very interesting juxtaposition of the man and the machine, which echo each other and have such a strong symbolic tie between them. This has pretty much all the elements of great street/candid photography. Congratulations for seeing the moment and acting fast to capture it. It's a pity that there are a few technical problems, such as overexposure. Nevertheless, I believe the photographer's vision alone deserves a good score. |

Surface tensionby gaurawaComment: Having seen this idea first in Visions of Science photography competition, I tried to replicate it and failed miserably. But you've done it quite well, except for the somewhat blown highlights on the clip, which by the way could be sharper. |
