A Very Unusual Portraitby smellyfish1002Comment: This is a great portrait; reminds me of trying to do flowers with a new twist to get away from the cliché. Even though the features are distorted to the point that one cannot 'recognize' the child, it's a telling representation of a child. Find this very insightful. Sad really that you felt obliged to give it such a blatantly obvious title to appease the literal minded voters at dpc. 9 |

Beatleby JackoComment: For some reason like the artisticity of the blurred leaf the most. 9 |

Serenityby paganiniComment: Lights have been blown out (guess you used a gold tone in PS and you might have tweaked the curve more which might have helped a bit). What's really appalling is that you took a perfect flower and then mess it up. That's really a crime against nature; worse than rape. It did not justify impairing this beautiful flower and that's exactly what you did. Because while you stood there with your camera you robbed this flower of oxygen. Should photosynthesis take a backseat to a photo-op? No way! The crime would not have been quite so great if you had taken an imperfect flower, such as one with a broken stem, to begin with.
My conscience tells me i ought to report this to Earth First! so that they can arrange for a hitman. Since it is hopeless to try and instill respect and a REAL understanding for nature to the likes of you, i will limit my actions, however, by giving this a 7.
Update: presumably by now you have had a chance to read my comment. It was a little harsh - guess, i was caught in the matrix :) It's actually quite a fine picture although i still feel that this flower may not be the ideal candidate for duotoning and might look better in color, just because it is so light in value. I like the mood of this picture and the composition with some leaves being abstract shapes and you also did an outstanding job with the rule of thirds :) 9
PS: I tried to cancel my phone call with Earth First ! but was unable to get hold of anybody - you'll just have to dodge the bullets for a while. |

World Trade Centerby FranziskaLangComment: While browsing through the B&W portfolios, I saw this image and it gave me the creeps. It took me months for my brain to register that those towers are no more and each time i see an image of them it gives me a big jolt. This is a nice image. Like how you simplified it to its essence and you created a beautiful arrow negative space. |

Treesby RemieComment: Very strong graphic image here. Nice mood. Like how the top of the image seeps into the white border |

Canyon Arch Closeupby dsidwellComment: Very nice image. From the thumbnail i could already notice that the light was 'magical', as you say. Really like your choice of aperture; it differentiates it from other shots of such arches. Here it almost gives the impression of a sculptor who has started to carve his work of art out of the raw stone. |

The Candidateby zeuszenComment: Zeuszen, congrats with this image. You finished quite well but i think you would have done better if some folks hadn't marked it down for 'not meeting the challenge yadayadayada'. I really like this shot which is way more important than doing something for a one time challenge.
Btw, also wanted to say thanks for the very insightful and eloquent comment you made the other day on a thread i started about provocation in art. |

Beaute Naturelle by lmhrComment: Oui, elle est vraiment très belle et il paraît que je la connais.
Yes, she is indeed very beautiful and i believe i know who she is
:)
It is also a classy style of beauty that i find very appealing, Ã la Isabella Rossilini, rather than that much sought after 'overtly sexy' beauty that often is really nothing but an empty shell. Please convey this compliment to your model !
Good portrait. I understand the pose and the position of the photographer. What i do not like about this is that somehow the face seems \'disjointed\' as it were from the body. From this vantage point, the relationship between the face and the body/shoulder almost seems a little like torture and almost as if the face is somehow pasted on. Vous comprenez?
;)
