EXCELLENT!!! Congrats on 4th
Apologies for not finishing my comments earlier.
WOW, this image really shows great use of neg space. Great composition and overall technically great. I love the grey and the way that the sky blends into the horizon. You really feel as if they are in the middle of nowhere. Great work.

One more thing...I had absolutely no idea what to title this photo...I think that what little wit I have was on vacation that day :-)

WOW, Thanks everyone for your votes and wonderful comments. artemis8 is absolutely correct, it is a rubbery covered lightbulb. I'm almost embarassed to say, but I went to Walmart just looking around for something to use for the photo, when I say this lightbulb - it was the only one and just laying in the housewares dept.

I was very excited about this photo, mostly because I actually got the black to look black! I was very determined to get that black right this time!!

I will post some outtakes tonight or tomorrow.

I started taking photos in my livingroom during the day and things were just not going right - frustrating - so, I said to myself...Self, you need to darken this place (tried closing the blinds - but still too much light)...mmm where in this house is there more dark?? OF COURSE, the Bathroom---WHAT a sight! the black foam board, my camera and tripod, a clamp light with the red lightbulb in this tiny bathroom with no windows, it was perfect! I took the shot with my 3 macro lens, camera in macro/spot mode and used A priority. I fooled around with the exposure settings...and after 50+ shots, viola...I got my photo.

I did not need to do much adjustments for this photo...I only cropped it a tad, and rotated it. I didn't need any color, gamma or tone adjustments...and the black was just black - I succeeded!!! What I found most difficult was to get the color and the focus correct as well as the right composition/or aspect of the lightbulb.

I can not express it well enough, but I have learned soooo much from this site and the people here. My first entry (Shadows) was a definate...Well I have to start somewhere..photo. Someone suggested to me..You should take a course in photography...you know what, this is a course in photography!! The best part about this 'course' is that you get just a wide range of experience, talent, view points. This challenge, I had 325 votes...can that compare to 1 teacher and perhaps 10 students - all located within a small area? Not likely

Thanks again...for the votes, comments and experience!!!

Hopefully I'm not the only, but I don't get the title
This is such a great photo!!!! She looks young. There's something about this photo, an emotion I just can't express...sort of sad, but not desparately sad. This photo is so soft. As I look, I'm not sure if the amount of neg space is needed for this (I scrolled up to see the photo w/o all of the white), but then it takes on a different effect. The additional neg space emphasizes the emotion - a kind of lonely aspect of the image. I love the way her hair falls. She's very attractive, especially her full lips and cheeks. She has a certain beauty that is natural (although I'm sure she has makeup on) Excellent Photo 10

Nice work and idea. For me, this would've been more effective by cropping most of the grass out, leaving a very small line across the bottom..was there a reason to leave it in. To me it is taking away the effect from the cross against the sky.

Great work Great use of Neg Space. The Neg Space really outlines and enhances the subject. I like the smoothness and the simplicity. Great Work 10
