You were soooo robbed, should have been top 20, IMHO. The reason for the score is evident by the comments -- the voters have obviously never seen the movie. Good work! Technically speaking, there's a bit of "tungsten" color cast in the whites & highlights that I might remove if it were my shot. |
| 11/23/2006 09:42:00 AM | Joyride!by alanbataarComment: Hey there y'all... Thanks for the nice comments!
I was trying to capture some of the nice fall colors and blue sky in the background, but the ones that had a nice background wound up with a blurry subject, or worse, a strange expression on my face. This is technically a self-portrait.
To answer the questions regarding how I achieved the blur within the rules of basic editing, I stood in front of several trees with nice colors, and held the camera out at arms length. 10-22mm lens at 10, and the apeture set to be pretty small, f18, in order to drive up the shutter speed, which was 1/5th of a second. The natural light versions were too blurry to use, so I fired the built-in flash to get a crisp subject, yet allow the background to swirl.
One nice thing about the XTi with the 10mp capture is that it allowed me to dramatically crop the image down from the catpure and still get a very useable size. |

Proves that there are no hard-and-fast rules about processing... | Photographer found comment helpful. |

You'll probably get lots of negative comments on the wide border, but I think it really makes it work well. The lighting is very subtle, very beautiful. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 11/15/2006 05:46:31 AM | Helmetby zoolComment: Yeah, buddy! I almost bought that helmet, but I figured my wife wouldn't approve. Photographically speaking, the lighting has really mixed colors -- I see the green of a flourescent light on the right, but the lower side seems to be lit with an incandescent light. This may be part of why the whole image has a sort of cream-colored cast to it. You'll get more uniform results if you use only one type of light. |
| 11/01/2006 09:02:27 PM | woodsby tendogzComment: what aspect of this image do you want to be dramatic? The composition, the color, the light? Pick one and emphasize it --- we did have advanced rules, so go to town. |
