Great pic. This in teh 21st century, not the 18th. Digital editing is here to stay, another tool for the photographer.

How in the world do you think it is possible that this is just one image???
It is one image, trust me, I've seen the original.

I thought advanced editing could still only use 1 photo. This to me clearly is two photos, which should be DQ'd.

I've found that I've taken something of a backwards route (at least from the norm here), having become more than proficient at Photoshop (8+ years experience) THEN taking an interest in photography because of that experience. That being said, I've sought this type of site out purely to improve my *photographic* skills, not those pertaining to *Photoshop*. While this entry is valid according to the current rule set, it points out glaring vagueness that should be addressed. There are clearly at least 3 separate photographs in this entry, probably 4 (hand holding polarizing filter, window grill, woman on couch, landscape/sky), and numerous layers to arrive at the final result.
If people insist on submitting this type of entry, I think there should be a separate contest for them. Otherwise, the only way to weed out this type of submission is to clarify the rules to specify that "using Photoshop to make the best picture it can be" means making ONE picture the best it can be, not elements of however many you choose.
I commend labuda's efforts and skills in Photoshop, but this is (at least in my understanding) a photography site/contest. I have the basic membership, which allows me only enter "lightly" edited photos. It wasn't the $2/month which deterred me from choosing the higher end membership, but my wanting to limit myself to actual photography to help myself get better at it. To those of you who HAVE the pay membership and are against this type of submission, my suggestion is a sort of civil disobedience. Simply cancel your pay membership until the rules have been amended to bring back the original intent of the contests.
Anyway, "hello" to everyone as this is my first posting here, and I look forward to everyone's constructive criticism for my future (and minimally edited) submissions.
Edit- the edit was for grammar/spelling*
Edit- having re-read the rules for "advanced editing," this submission should have immediately been disqualified based on the "single photo" rule. Two fold, actually. Not only is this clearly not one photograph, but I have my sneaking suspicions that the source photo for the woman was not the entrant's own. Should that not be the case, my apologies in advance. I also apologize for my comment regarding rule clarification, as they actually ARE clear. I guess the problem is lack of enforcement of them? In that case, I adjust my civil disobedience suggestion to be "Simply cancel your pay membership until the rules are enforced appropraitely to bring back the original intent of the contests."

I think things are getting out of hand here. I'm surprised that this shot scored so high since it doesn't even "feel" like a photo.
Heck, I'd be ready to give back my one and only ribbon (which was received in part through PS, but not at this intensity) if it could help return emphasis back to the photography side of things instead of the editing freakshow we've seen lately. For the greater good...
EDIT
Oh yeah, and I find that you should post your workflow in your comments when submitting such images with heavy editing. Not so that we can copy you, but just to give us an idea on how much editing was really involved.

This makes novices like myself want to pack it up and never take another picture because, well, what's the point? We can't compete with your expensive digital trickery, so why even bother? I don't feel bad for the midrange vote I gave your picture because even my untrained eye knew something was up with this one.

Aleks,
I achieved one of my goals with my "Window" entry. To submit a photo that people doubt as being 'real' & knowing that if it were recommended for disqualification it would be validated as such, even if the basic editing rules were in place for this challenge. It's a shame it wasn't recommended for DQ within the first few minutes, as the score tended to go up from the point in time it was validated. I'll bet I feel better about my score than you do/did. What are you trying to prove, to whom? Am I missing something?

The red roofs on those houses look like a post card from Italy or Spain,Montreal homes are using shingles, not red bricks! And the greenery, kind of too early for Canada?
The whole photo looks fake and if it realy is you should be banned from the site!

i can only imagine the PMs that you are receiving. at least you can get some credit as the person who not only manipulated his photos, but also a possible adjustment of the rules or direction of the site.
i for one feel it's a good thing you submitted that past few shots to show some loop holes in the rules that need to be thought out and changed if the site wants to truely be about photography first.

I figured that the nature of this picture would cause some discussion. Although it's a fantastic image overall, not sure if it will remain here or not. And as it turns out the 1st place image might have the same problem. As Rooster said, Good Luck!

Assuming you have done this within the rules, it is a clever picture. However, I don't like it, if feels very artificial. The background , the window and the hand with polariser are all in focus, which gives it an artifical feeling in my opinion. I also don't see why the landscape is in here. Why not just the woman on the couch with the blue sky around it ?

Olympus C-2100UZ 04/14/2004 12:43:17 AM
This is an absolutely astonishing image! What a great idea! I love how the clouds intermingle with your model's (W?) body. Her posture within the polarizer is excellent as well. Color is so vivid and composition is impeccable. The distored view of the landscape below adds yet another wonderful dimension to this feature rich picture. Very surreal and real all at the same time. Astounding how good this image is...I wish I could give it more than a 10.

Beautiful!!! I think this is a great shot for this challenge!! You've captured the colours so well, I like the red of her shoes, it stands out well, the idea of the polariser looking through is so good!! The only little nitpick is the amout of light on the hand and the right hand side of the window frame, it's a little too much. Very well done though, full marks!

Looks heavily PS minipulated, but cool anyway. :) You should have toned down the hand color a little (make it darker). As it is, it steals your eye from the subject a little.
