Beautiful picture! My pick for 1st and I believe it this will win 1st place. The black background with just the hand by the birds head is elegantly composed.

This was one of my favorites in the challenge. I don't usually like the kid entries in the challenges since most are snapshots that don't fit the challenge but this one fits the challenge very well and is very artistically done. Great use of muted color. I like the mood this picture projects, the expression on your daughters face and the butterfly. I had hoped it would have won a ribbon.

This was one of my favorites in the challenge. I thought it was very well done and should have placed a lot higher. I think the fact that a lot of people used rings caused your score to suffer. I don't think it should. This picture should of been judged in its own context. Very well shot, great lighting and interesting composition.

jmsetzler, Thanks for the comments! I've been meaning to thank you for your exposure tutorial too. Very good tutorial and the hyperfocal distance chart if very useful. My old manual focus lens on my Minolta X-700 had the hyperfocal distance markings but my Nikon AF zoom lenses do not and your chart comes in very handy! Here's Jmsetzlers tutorial: //www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=19

tfaust, neuferland, harz_joerg, oh no...I've been spotted! I thought my baseball cap would have disguised me for sure! ;)

Quoted from amsmyth "(as a woman I don't take to the title but that's ok - women can have a garage dominion as well)

You ladies already have dominion over the rest of the house (hence LAST dominion) now you want the garage as well?
My wife made me take down those pictures right after the photoshoot...so perhaps us guys don't even have the garage anymore...so sad. :(

ADDITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS COMMENTS
****************************************************

Thanks for all the comments. I was really hoping that my picture would make 3rd place.

The picture in my head of a garage was always that of a very masculine place where macho guys hung out and worked on their cars, where they kept their barbells and weights and where they went from time to time with their buddies to lift weights, drink beer, have a smoke and shoot the breeze.

I had that image of a garage with the particular mood and feel in my mind and I carefully composed all the elements in my picture to match the image in my head. I put a table in the corner, set up the shelves, things on the shelf, the tools, the girly pictures on the wall, the clothe I was wearing, rag in my pocket, beer, cigarettes, everything to create the mood and feel that I wanted to capture. Of all the picture I have taken (not that I have a great extensive portfolio or anything) this was my personal favorite because I was able to create a picture that captured the mood and atmosphere very closely to the one I had imagined.

When I was a teenager back in the 80's (back when rock n roll/heavy metal were king) my buddies and I were a bunch of macho looking guys in T-shirts, jeans and work boots. We worked on our old muscle cars, rode motorcycles, hung out in pool halls and spent hours lifting weights in Gyms with names like Ottomer's Iron Den. When the guys and I were more concerned about being big strong and tough then having pretty muscles...when the question of the day was how much can you bench? 250 and you were one of us, 300 you were well respected, 350 you were the MAN, 400 was the unobtainable goal at least none of my buddies or I ever reached it. We weren't concerned with political correctness then. It was a time of strong camaraderie, loyalty, and friendship. This picture was also an attempt to capture the mood, look and feel of that period of my life.

This pictures is for the GUYS! Perry, Chong, Rob, Huge, Vince, Nikos, Mason, Dave, Alex, Ron, Jason, Chuck and GeorgeĆ¢€Ā¦this one's for you!!!...The Riddle of Steel!!!...Keep the faith!!! PS> How many rolls?

Lighting: Two clip on desk lamps available at Walmart for under $10. One clipped on the shelf with a 60 watt bulb. The other over head and slightly in front. 75 or 100 watt bulb, I not sure which one I played around with the wattage to get a good balance. This was taken in the front corner of the garage. I placed a black sheet over the garage door to make the space to the left and behind me in the picture black. The panels on the door were distracting.

Wood on the Desk: I was originally going to put an old clock radio on top of it but couldn't find one. I kind of like the look of the wood so I left it there.
