I'm with Kroburg on this one. The cannon here looks black, in the B&W version it is a cowardly grey. And teh cannon acrries the shot, plus the people next to the house and stairs. The other people behind the cannon are all a dsitractor, in particular the 20th century citizens.
But overall a nice shot.

Yes I like this version better. It gives it more of an authentic old world feel. The vignetting adds a nice touch. If you want to make it look even older add some grain to it. I like it how it is so this is just a suggestion for experimenting :)

Had a look at both several times, but to be honest: can't tell which one I like most. I think if to choose, I should pick the coloured one, but that is partly because of the vignette on the B&W (I don't like the vignette). On the other hand, on the coloured one there is a grass section with almost blown-out highlights, looking better on the B&W.
Both images are very nice, telling something of the USA history. Only other thing that is slightly distracting are the modern visitors on the background, if you could clone these out, would be great.

Ah how sad - no matter what there is never the right time to lose a dear friend. I looked at her photo for quite some time - I love that her brown eyes are looking off to the horizon - you did a great job of getting the varying shades of blacks.grays in her fur - not easy on a black dog. I hope you are chasing squirrels Bailey.
