Too Lateby JoAnna3853Comment by rinac: This is a great comment. It is exactly the advice I would heed if I were you.
Originally posted by citymars: What a great old entrance, and I like the concept of the girl in front, but technically there are some problems: it's not very sharp, the girl sort of disappears against the background, the upper left corner is too bright and draws the eye away from the subjects, a lot of empty space down front, plus you've got the phone wires. Maybe shot at a later time of afternoon, with a tripod and a reflector or fill flash, would bring better results (though no recommendation for the wires, unless you can cut them down). ;-) |

Road to Sugarloafby JoAnna3853Comment by rinac: I gave this a 7 purely for composition. A marvellous subject for this challenge. However, I would have given this a 10, without batting an eyelid, had it been in focus somewhere along that road... |

Orange on Orangeby JoAnna3853Comment by rinac: I think this image would have been better with a tighter crop and a straight down point of view. As it is, the ugly areas around the outside of the base(?) orange spoils the picture. Looks like you've used a vignette with a poor choice of blend mode, giving the image a rather dirty, flat look. I've found vignettes work remarkably well blended in either soft-light or over lay mode, but at a reduced opacity, say, 30-40%. Watch that focus too! Very important you have areas in focus that help the viewer through the image. At the moment, I'm stuck at mid-bottom with no desire to look further.

Orange on Orangeby JoAnna3853Comment by tryingtostayinfocus: I can't really tell what it is that the orange is sitting on. It might be more effective to crop out the bottom portion of the photo with the distracting white and silver areas. |

Road to Sugarloafby JoAnna3853Comment by tootsweet: There seems to be a lack of focus here. This shot would have lent itself really well to either focussing at the end of the road or the beginning of the road. Use DOF to add dimension to the shot. Right now the focus seems to be the leaves in the front left corner. |

Road to Sugarloafby JoAnna3853Comment by Coley: Great composition here. A nice s curve and leading line. I maybe would have converted this to black and white or duotone . |
