That was due to my laziness mostly, so I couldn't blame you for voting me down on that. XD
Originally posted by star155: I like the concept, it would be better with a background that relates. For example, a bar or high counter top. |
I chose this background because as you can see, the distortion of the deck and the lattice show inside the glass. I found them the most interesting pattern, but I understand what you're saying.
Originally posted by Shaman: I find the background here very distracting. great colour in the liquid, tho. In a dark studio set-up, using the same upwards angle and lighting on the glass, this would have been a 7 or 8. now 5 |
As I said above, in a different setting the distorted patterns wouldn't be there, and that was what I was mainly focusing on.

| 04/29/2007 09:47:00 AM | I call this, 'Sparrow With Concussion'.by Beautiful-JoeComment by SaraR: Focus is on the bird (sparrow?) and the depth of field is just right, giving a hint of the background but allowing the viewer to concentrate completely on the bird, which is the subject. The composition is sound, with space to the left, giving the bird space to 'look in to'.
You have the basis of a good photograph here, Joe - it just needs a few tweeks to give it a little more punch:
Small crop to reduce the amount of rock at the bottom of the picture
Slight levels adjustment, to give more punch
UnSharp Mask at 54%, 0.5, 0
All in Photoshop elements v.4 - if you don't have photoshop, there is a piece of free-ware called The Gimp which does everything elements can, and pretty much everything the full version of photoshop does. It isn't as easy to use as Photoshop, but there are on-line tutorials. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

This is a wonderful photo. I know how you can wish "it wasn't on the web" because it makes you look vulnerable and weak. But in reality... it shows a part of all of us. We all have that look on the inside of us from time to time, even if it doesn't show necessarily on the outside.
As for the photograph itself... after working for so long in the photojournalistic field, I can tell you this...this is a perfect example of an 'open-ended photojournalistic photograph'. Photojournalism is the art of using a picture to tell a story. By open-ended I mean that your picture tells a complete story without necessarily giving the particulars surrounding the photograph. Anyone who looks at your photograph knows immediately that you are scared, feeling vulnerable and afraid of whatever is next. Only you and whoever you have told know WHY you are feeling this way, but this doesn't necessarily matter since the feelings you are feeling are right there in front of us.
Great photograph, Joe!! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

They kinda went grey on me.
I'm a little scared, but nowadays they can't really let anything bad happen during surgery, can they?
=P
Think of the get well gifts I'll get afterwards! |
