Night On (over) the Townby caroleeComment by Lustre: I think a much tighter crop (depending on the zoom available I guess) may have helped this photo. It looks like a great shot of the firework but it's just too small.
Also, I think the title probably didn't help this picture - it's a little difficult to understand your intentions initially. Perhaps something like "Observing a night on the town from a distance" or something more catchy.
I've never tried a shot like this so I don't really appreciate how difficult it is. For the distance involve the shot looks quite good but the detail is too small. I guess the ideal situation would have been several fireworks spread out over a wide area and a very panoramic crop to show the expanse of the city. |

Preparing for battleby caroleeComment by Swashbuckler: This is a very nice piece. Also scored this an 8. I like the idea of this shot and the details are great! Suggestion - crop the bottom a bit as the edge of the board creates some odd directional reflections. All in all, I like this piece very much. Rob |

"Indian Bathtub" on a mountainside in the Sierrasby caroleeComment by Swashbuckler: Naturally set shots like this don't do well at DPC. It requires a bit of thought and doesn't contain a lot of WOW. I like this and scored it an 8. I would bet money this was "carved" out, unless there was a cliff and an old stream bed right there. Compositionally, this is fine. I might have tried a steeper angle, or moved around to catch different reflections in the water. Splashing the water might have created some fun effects, but I can't think of a way without putting stones into the pond...probably not a good idea. Rob |

Night On (over) the Townby caroleeComment by carolee: Wow. That's a low score! Looking back, I can see that my composition is too static. But I was really kind of proud of this image! Hadn't done any fireworks pictures that came out before. And for us, a night "on" the town is staying home. This was taken from our front deck, where we watched five different displays going at once. It was very peaceful, but at the same time gave us a chance to observe the bustle of a night on the town without actually being out in it.
Anyone who didn't comment, please feel free to comment now and tell me what I could have done to better convey the mood I was going for. Criticism will only help me improve! Would cropping have helped, or is there just no way to express what I want with this subject?
Thanks! |
