A lovely still life. I would prefer the teacup to not be cut off.

Wow. I do see how much time you spent putting together your compositon. Your photo is incredibly colorful and sharpness is perfect. My one criticism is that your stargazer lily is distracting. I think the photo is too busy with it. I would have either taken it out, and taken out the jar of strawverry hame. I would have not cropped the top so short (I want to see more of that beautiful yard to get more of a feel of your home). Nice job, though, I do like it.

Composition: I really like the framing chosen for this image. The shoelace is perhaps a touch close at the very top, but it still looks ok. Having the knot of the shoelace centred gives the image a nice balance.

Technical Quality: The colour is very nice. The light is also quite good (a very small piece of over exposure at the top of the shoe - inside the loop of the lace, but nothing significant). The depth of field is quite shallow, however since nothing is deliberately blurred is looks more accidental than deliberate - thankfully most of the image is quite sharp. Exposure is wonderful - neither too light nor too dark.

Meeting Challenge: It's not an extreme macro, but its close enough for me. Also, given the shallow depth of field I suspect the camera was very close to the shoe taking this shot.

Creativity: It's a nice shot. The shape of the shoelace creates interest and the texture of the shoe itself is lovely. It kind of makes me what to know who Phoebe is.

Border / Title: The border is very subtle - it doesn't add much to the image, but it doesn't distract from it either so no problem. The title is nice - like I said, it makes me what to know who Phoebe is.

Overall: It's a very well executed photo. You obviously put some thought into the lighting and composition is wonderful. The shoe has an old quality that adds a lot of texture and interest to the shot. I might have considered trying to get the entire shoe into focus - perhaps moving the camera back and zooming in to compensate. Well done.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Composition - The first major photographic faux pas here I see is that the photo is not level with the horizon. This is especially troubling to photos where there is some substantial reference to what the horizon is, namely the pegboard in the back. The other thing I think is that too much was included in this pic. I'd have chosen one good corner and really focused on 6 or 7 clocks there where you could have a little control over their reflections in their faces. There is much potential here for good shots. There is a lot of potential for this shot to be good. Great subject(s) for this challenge. The only part I don't like in terms of what's in the picture is the grandfather clock on the right side with the bad reflections of the fluorescent lights in the face.

Technical - As far as photographic skill, its pretty well taken. The focus is off slightly. I think the angle could've been better and just choosing what to shoot could've been better. It isn't bad like this though. I like the exposure and DOF. It looks great in black and white too.

Overall - The score is probably lower than I would expect. Some folks are really picky about true to the horizon (I am too). I think in this case it would've made a pretty substantial difference in your score. Maybe 5.3-5.5 area in lieu of 4.8ish. A little better focused and it would've made just that much more of a difference. All in all I think you had the right idea, just maybe needed a bit more time to hone the shot or a little help in properly editing it so it wasn't so off kilter. Not bad though. Good luck in future challenges - Inspzil

This image has such mood that the shoelace goes beyond being a shoelace, making me want to know more about both it and Phoebe. Nice job.
