Secret Smileby LiamD2005Comment by ksh_71: Beautiful Picture. You captured the right amount of the subject and the facial expression made this picture as far as I am concerned |

How did that get in there?by LiamD2005Comment by sunita: I voted on this and gave it a low score. To me, what caught the eye were the leaves and the purple chocolate seemed to be an add-on. I felt that I had to search the image for the purple in it. I think that in these challenges, the theme has to reach out of the image and grab you (of sorts, at least) else you don't stand much of a chance of a high score among some of the superb shots out here. (I'm new here too and am still learning :-))
Perhaps, if you had cropped the image to the region around the chocolate and made it the focus of attention, you might have had slightly better scores. But you're probably better off rethinking your idea and coming up with a stronger shot. |

beamishfield.jpgby LiamD2005Comment by goinskiing: First off, very sound exposure and pretty well spot on there. Excellent combination of DOF and sharpness. I agree also that the center composition doesn't make the off-screen anticipation as strong as it could be, maybe if the dog were positioned on the left third of the picture with more space on the right third really driving home "What is he looking at?" So really, the thing I personally would focus on is composition, otherwise it's pretty solid and sound. Its hard to get animals to cooperate so kudos there. Keep it up, I really like it.

beamishfield.jpgby LiamD2005Comment by CEJ: Good portrait, nice exposure, but cropped a little too centered. If you took more off the left of the picture to make his center line more on the thirds line, would be much stronger. DoF is excellent. Nice shot. |

beamishfield.jpgby LiamD2005Comment by rlewis: It strikes me that the focus is on his nose rather than his eye. Tough exposure...you lose a lot of detail under the ear, you might have considered trying to recover some of that. The image is good, but to me (I am color blind) the background while blurred well is boring in color. |
