Open Armsby jrsnowComment by Tammer: I really like the smile on the woman's face - it shows a true joy towards the oncoming girl. I don't get as great a sense of "from the ground up" as other photos, but I really like the overall treatment. |

Open Armsby jrsnowComment by Tycho: Frankly, the first time I saw this photograph, I thought that although it was a very nice candid, it failed to meet the challenge. On second thought, however, I realized that it did meet the challenge, if not in a physical sense, indeed in a philosophical sense; from the ground up, from a child to an adult, etc. I don't know whether or not that's actually what you have intended to convey, but I guess that's irrelevant; I've seen what I needed to see, and that's all that matters. Not much to say about the technical side of the image; composition, exposure, sharpness and post-processing all look very good. Of course, one might nitpick and say that the treeline should have been placed higher so as not to be cut by the bride's head, and the bride's face, especially her eyes, should've had more detail/light (which could be fixed with spot editing anyway, if this were not a basic editing challenge), etc. But I think that in this photograph, none of that really matters...Long story short, good work! |

Open Armsby jrsnowComment by Germaine: This is a good picture, but I don't get any feeling of shooting from the ground up. |

Open Armsby jrsnowComment by glad2badad: This is a wonderful image of joy and happiness. I like the coloration job you've done with it. My only complaint is I'm not seeing the connection to the challenge with the camera angle (level instead of ground up) and approach you've taken. You've made some connection I cannot see or feel. Regardless, I'm sure this will make a nice addition as a family image to cherish forever. Good luck in the challenge. |

Open Armsby jrsnowComment by Army of nOne: I understand the play on words here (at least I think I do) but IMO it subverts the intent of the challenge and therefore does not fit said challenge. Great photo though. |

Neglected Doorby jrsnowComment by deapee: ** greetings from the critique club **
I have to agree with what was already said -- the door seems to be the be the main subject, but it's out of focus...which brings me to think along your lines -- you neglected the door in your photo just as the door is neglected in real life. It works...but unfortunately, probably not enough people made the connection.
It's pretty strong compositionally, I think the photo would do great in certain places, unfortunately, most photos have just a second or two (here on dpchallenge durring voting) to grab the viewer's attention and say "he stop look at me" -- and apparently this one didn't do that.
Keep shooting...this shows that you're creative and definately have the eye. |
