The elusive Snowy Owl 120 knots off shoreby lawlessComment by eschelar: Pretty pic of the Snowy Owl. I'm confused by your title. I can't see any water anywhere. I think Knots is a measure of speed, not distance. Nautical Miles are nautial miles, Knots are Nautical Miles per hour? Maybe I'm wrong. |

The elusive Snowy Owl 120 knots off shoreby lawlessComment by Bear_Music: It's irrelevant to my scoring (nice shot) but "knots" is a unit of speed, not of distance. In the old days they threw a propeller-thingie (the "log"" off the side of the ship and played out line with knots on it between their fingers for a specified amount of time, hence "making 7 knots". Now a "knot" is one nautical mile per hour. You may return to your regular program now, sorry to be pedantic. As I said, NO effect on the score, and love your owl. |

First Friday night with dads carby lawlessComment by ubique: My favourite among the "car keys" shots. I remember my similar moment only too well ... a woman ran into the back of dad's car at a stoplight! This is a nice composition, perfect DOF for the purpose. Good job. 8 |

First Friday night with dads carby lawlessComment by srbrubaker: Nice concept. This is a very unusual point of view. I love the texture of the hand and of the denim. It's great to see the car, but I'm finding the headlight just a little overpowering. I've tried looking at it with all the headlight cropped out fully and half of it cropped out, and I think I agree that its existence is necessary to set up a kind of visual tension that parallels the tension of the 'dad' in the title: still, I think if it were half gone the tension would still be there. Love to know what you think. |

Caged Beautyby lawlessComment by DustDevil: From the Critique Club
Striking pose, fills the frame nicely. Maybe a bit to cropped off on top, just by a hair. Great detail in the hair, face and beak.
I think what may have hurt the image was opinions it was an ugly and beat up looking bird. I still find it very pleasing and not in that sort of mood.
I think the fence frames the bird nicely but a little more clarity might have given more emphasis with that. |
