Well, that's wacky alright.
For me the image is extremely harsh and looks very much like a snapshot. There are some simple changes I'd have made to prevent this:
> Don't use head-on flash - it flattens the shot and creates harsh shadows that 'outline' the subject
> Use a tripod and experiment with directional light sources to make it look warmer and more appetising, like a food 'pack shot' in advertising (just look at a magazine to see examples)
> Include more of the hand or none at all
> Try a lower angle to make the focus and composition more interesting
