I particularly like the way the flash has added additional luminosity to the beads. An uncomplicated photograph of a complicted tangle.

the composition is intruiging, but it bothers me a bit that it's out of focus

Thanks everyone. Some really helpful feedback in the comments. Lots of good suggestions. I will be taking them all on board and hoping to improve on future submissions. (Didn't get around to a submission for the'Waiting' challenge, but will put more in along the way).

a few comments.. first of all, always avoid taking a picture dead on for several reasons.. One, you get a very bright central flash that can wash out the center and make the edges dark and vignetty. It can also be a problem with reflective surfaces such as this one, where it bounces back to you and removes the invisability of the glass (and the photographer). It's also just very boring, because there's very little texture and shading with the light. Furthermore, pictures are nearly ALWAYS improved when taken to the side of an object, as opposed to completely centered.

Critique Club:

Welcome to DPC! I can see you've already taken on board a lot of constructive criticism, so I won't go overboard with this critique.
Obviously, focus (or lack of it) was the big issue here... you mentioned you would use a tripod the next time, are you sure camera shake was the culprit, or perhaps a very shallow dof caused by using a wide aperture in macro mode? The focus may have been in the centre of the picture, on the reflection of the candle. There were some very interesting contrasts in light, shape and texture, but by using mundane bathroom items I think people look less at it as an abstract picture, and more just as a collection of objects. Also, watch out for burnt-out highlights.
Good luck with your future challenges,

Bob

The glare and refection on the glass is distracting... not enough light.

Comment by Kolya:
The flash is distracting. I woiuld have gone for a longer exposure on tripod to not get the reflection.
