Twilight Picnicby

Composition: Well composed. I like the colors and the shapes of the tree - the way the branches are bent. It's an excellent choice for a subject. I question the centering of the tree mostly because of the inclusion of the figures and picnic table. I would love the feeling that this was an isolated tree - or if the point of the photo is to say that these are people who have gathered to watch the sunset, then it would need to be framed to show them a bit more. The amount of foreground you chose anchors the subject well and really helps to bring the eye to the crown of the tree.
Background: The sky is wonderful, I love the color and I know it really is like that in Hawaii sometimes. I would prefer if the foreground grass had less detail to it.
Camera Work: (Focus/DOF/Exposure) - there is a slight grain to it or lack of focus. I'd like to see the tree particularly sharp - maybe play with a different speed?
Post Processing: The color/saturation/contrast is perfectly appropriate for this shot. If this were not for a silhouette challenge. I agree that the red halo around the heads of the people is a little distracting from the rest of the image.
The Challenge: Fits the challenge very well.
My Opinion: A nice shot, very evocative of place and time. I think the shot would benefit from an off-center tree, maybe closer crop of it or a slightly different angle to get rid of the people or closer in to actually get a better sense of the people.
