Still Life with Bath Gloveby BupuComment by KaDi: Hello from the Critique Club!
Brightly lit image of a new bath glove...which would not be evident to me without the title. The object is out of context and has nothing to support the concept of its function.
Apparently meant as a humorous piece or a product shot. I'm going with the first. It seems the point of isolating a single, everyday item in an image is to compel the viewer to really look at the item. In this image, however, there are also two shadows that compete with the centered subject for attention...and conflict with each other clearly conveying the artificial lighting situation. I agree with one of your commenters that one light could have been raked across the item to bring out the texture of the furry mit. With the second light, I would suggest diffusing it--either by filtering it through gauzy fabric or by bouncing it off something reflective such as poster board.
You don't indicate in your notation what you were trying to acheive with this image. If it was to get a reaction or cause viewers to chuckle, I think you may have only fairly succeeded. As for the image in the challenge, I think voters may have been looking for subjects with more subdued coloring and clean, white backgrounds...but you can go crazy if you only try to make images for the voters. =)
Good luck in future challenges!
Keep shooting!

Still Life with Bath Gloveby BupuComment by JulieG: Not sure about the two shadows. Maybe if you had raked the lighting across the glove to show more texture, I would have liked the shot better. Apart from that the whites are nice and crisp and the contrast is good. |

Still Life with Bath Gloveby BupuComment by Elaine: This is not an interesting subject to me. Perhaps a different angle would help, as would it not being centered. I also find the shadows distracting. |
