You do NOT have to vote on 100% of the photos in a challenge. Yes, I am saying if you are offended by a subject of a photo . . don't vote on it! I'll do the same . . . when I see the 75th photo of your kid, grandkid, dog, or pretty little posey, I will just pass on by and not slam it for the technical pitfalls or the fact that is does not meet the challenge . . . yet again. Because honestly, dpchallenge is not going to save the world, make the net a safer place for all humanity or fix the sorry state of this big blue ball. No name calling, no hurtful comments . . . just productive comments. (Yeah, I know, whatever . . hearts and flowers). Allow people who are inclined to think outside the box, to embrace their creativity . . . not stifle it. IF it meets the rules of the site, it should be judged fairly, regardless of subject matter. If you can't, then dq yourself as a judge for that photo. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/04/2007 07:43:41 PM | Three Speed Boyfriendby lkn4truthComment: Oh give me a freakin break . . . kids see far worse than this benign image on the web, tv, magazines and movies. Is this image so much worse than the constant brutality of other creatures that they witness 45 billion times an hour? Is it ok that children watch something like oh I don't know . . . the evening news and see all the crap going on in the world? Should we ban newscasts, cartoons, movies, sitcoms, parental fights, oh and the shool yard and friends, magazines, textbooks . . . hell lets lock everyone in a room and give them white walls, white paper, white everything to look at . . . nothing to offend. I NOR IS ANYONE ELSE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN . . . I have four of the little boogers and have allowed them to see whatever comes there way . . . but I HAVE TALKED TO THEM AND GIVEN THEM THE INPUT OF A GOOD PARENT . . . . that is my responsibility . . not to try to keep the world out but to teach them how to deal with the world. VIBRATORS ARE OUT THERE . . . THOSE SCAREY MONSTERS . . . YES BRUTALITY IS OUT THERE . . . IT IS TERRIBLE. Do I view it as art no, but if it is within the rules and technically good, I would judge it as such. Doesn't mean I approve it . . . or would choose it as my subject.
If you really want to save all children and make the world a better place -- instead of attacking people on a website such as this for a benign image . . . go after movie producers, or politicians or some other hideous creature . . . not some poor smo who sees art where you can't.
Individual responsibilty and individual rights are all kept in the same place . . . in people who, like me, are willing to reach outside the box and not allow irrational fears, prejudices and hatred taint who I am, or what I stand up for. You can call me self righteous, you can call me . . umm what was the term someone used "devil's spawn" but as long as there are people like me in the world . . people like you can continue to take pictures of WHATEVER you CHOOSE and know that someone out here is going to judge you on the technical merits . . . even if it is another damn shot of your kid with it's finger up its nose or some smelly animal that you love. I am the person that is willing to stand up to the bullies, the egotists, the fanaticists that seek to limit a person's rights simply because they don't like something. Get a grip. Byte me. Whatever it takes. But continue to take pictures of pretty flowers if that is what you choose to do, but don't blast other's ideas of beauty or art or those who take the time and energy to defend personal artistic freedom and expression. If small boxed in narrow minds are offended or shocked by art at any level, then they should stay out of artistic sites. People view art differently. Vote on the technical merits . . . if the subject matter is something you don't like . . . so be it . . . but don't knock something technically.
This is about the artwork, not the person, don't go harrassing people personally . . . it is about the PICTURE . . . not the person.
If someone is so narrow that they can only see the subject and not the technical aspects of a shot, then they should not be on this or any other artistic voting type site.
It is a vibrator -- millions are owned worldwide by men and women of all colors, socioeconmic classes, religions, etc. Get over it. And yes, your children, probably do know what they are and that mom keeps her's in the second drawer of her nightstand. COME ON PEOPLE . . . SEX IS PART OF LIFE ON PLANET EARTH, IT IS NOT DIRTY, NUDITY IS NOT BAD, FORNIFICATION HAPPENS. GET A FREAKIN GRIP. Sex, art, emotions, love, nudity, lust . . . it is all there . . . . on DPCHALLENGE. Get over your freaking self-righteous, narrowminded, boxed-in selves.
