Portrait of a manby IraklisComment: I'm returning to this image now a couple months after the vote, and it still has all the appeal it did to me in the challenge. I figured it would be a polarizing photo for many voters, and the score reflects that, but to me the blur still emphasizes that man's haunted expression perfectly. What is he thinking? Who is he? What has he seen, what has he done? If an image gives the viewer pause and causes him to ponder such questions, it has succeeded expertly as a portrait. It certainly did for me, and it would appear by the comments below it did for many others as well. Great job. |

Rising sun (CW)by hojop25Comment: I'm not voting in this challenge, but if I were I'd give this a 10. It's simple and elegant, and has an appealing tonal range within the orange and yellow spectrum. I like the softness of the ripples... |

Spiritby MaryOComment: Fantastic. The focus and muted colors give this a sort of 'chalky' look that I find very appealing. |

Touch The Sky by hotpastaComment: This image stopped me in my tracks during voting. Glad to see it take the blue.
[ edit ] On a side note, I get really disappointed when people don't allow themselves to enjoy an image because they are too busy searching for technical flaws or violation of compositional conventions. I honestly didn't even notice the blown out clouds until I read your description and struggle even now to figure out how they diminish the visual impact of this image. I do not typically think of the cabin of a commercial airliner as an enviable photographic destination! Message edited by author 2010-03-31 02:31:26. |

Color Coordinated by vawendyComment: I disagree completely with anyone who suggests the bird detracts from the branch as a subject in this photo. They really do match perfectly, and so this becomes a story about the bird being at home in and a natural extension of the branch. Beautiful photo! |
