Norwich, January 2008by e301Comment: Brilliant shot, congrats on the ribbon. It's so nice to see my home town so well represented. Better than anything I've done here, and I'd bet you were only in town for the day (and why would anyone stay here longer than that?). Drop me a note next time you're here and maybe we can share a pint. |

In the darkness of my mind lie reflectionsby purpleflutterby13Comment: I didn't vote this challenge, either, but I probably would have given this a six. Keep in mind that five is pretty much as low as I go (I see things where there are no things, and I give photographers credit for them). Here, the six would have been because the swan doesn't look soft to me, but instead looks like plastic. I loved the thumb, and I love the deep darkness, calling to be seen but hiding from even the most probing, searching eyes; it's daunting, scary, powerful. But on top, there's a plastic swan. I could come up with something about the commercial nature of post-modern industrial economies, creating wealth of thin air, of our throw-away societies, but I wouldn't have done that here. I would have wanted a real swan to be chased by that shadow . . . (I still like it). |

week-5.jpgby LanndonKaneComment: I like the ever so slightly off kilter feel here, though I'm not really a fan of the extreme vignette (what are you hiding in all that darkness?). Your description reminds me of this song:
"I like studying faces in a parking lot
Cause it doesn't remind me of anything
I like driving backwards in the fog
Cause it doesn't remind me of anything" Message edited by author 2008-02-01 17:07:01. |

01 Misty Flightby SandyPComment: Delightful; I love the centered composition as isolating the bird, and the softness of the background throughout. Lovely, light tones and a feeling of fantasy. Excellent! |

The Hideoutby HipychikComment: I love the window in this; someone is watching out of that window, watching as you shoot the scene, thinking what to do, whether to just let you get on with it, or maybe to come out, ask what you're doing . . . I can even see (in my mind's eye) the hand reaching out to open the window . . . excellent, moody scene. |

4-Ebony&Ivory--002-V4.jpgby 777STANComment: Good capture of friendship and the familiarity that it breeds (in a good way); I think the comments so far sum it up nicely. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. |

frozen pondby VeioletsComment: Wonderful. Such detail and texture. I wonder as did others about a bump in contrast, but I too like high contrast. In this case, though, I wonder if some burning and dodging might be better than a straight contrast boost. That's because I love the reeds the way they are, and if you bump the contrast, they'll change, too. So, maybe some dodging on the snow to make it brighter and more white (while controlling it so as to not blow it out, something you've avoided well in the initial shot)? I do like it as is, though . . . |

Metroby doc_gonzoComment: I, too, love the mystery in this; where does it really lead? Where would you go if you walked there, subway trains aside? You've captured the shadows wonderfully here. |

Sixy in Jeansby fotomann_foreverComment: I see the "title shoehorn" police visited your shot, too (some of their cohort stopped by mine, as well). I think it's a great idea, well executed, and fun to look at! |
