    Biography: Hey there curious browser,

My name's Aaron and I work in the IT department of an insurance company in metro-Detroit.

I received my first camera when I was 17, an Olympus OM-G that had belonged to my grandfather. It had a lot of options that I didn't understand and when I read the manuals, it made reference to even more confusing photographic terms. So I signed up for a photography class my senior year of high school. Since then, my love for the craft has waxed and waned, but has never died. Over the years I have gone through a few point and shoots borrowed from friends and workplaces (legally, of course), but I could never seem to get my timing right. Those darn things and their shutter lag!

Back in September of 2006, my wife and I were planning a honeymoon in Hawaii. The thought of taking our Sony CD-based point and shoot really irked me, so I started doing some research and I purchased my first (and so far only) digital SLR; the Canon you'll find in my profile. I cannot tell you how many times after having taken the first couple of pictures, that I had made this decision years earlier. What an improvement! It really revived my love for photography, mostly I think because it allowed that love to live in harmony with my love for computers. It was a match made in heaven.

I took a fundamentals of photography course back in the fall and learned quite a bit about composition and general technique. What most fueled my love for the art, however were the class assignments. Every week we had an assignment to complete. At last, my work was going to receive real criticism. Granted family and friends try to be helpful, they often don't have ideas on how to improve my work. The criticism and suggestions that I received during that class were invaluable.

I joined this forum on the suggestion of a friend who is currently a member. I poked around and to be honest, this site looks like exactly what I've been looking for. I look forward to the camaraderie and criticism.
Signature: My photographs are not planned or composed in advance and I do not anticipate that the onlooker will share my viewpoint. However, I feel that if my photograph leaves an image on his mind--something has been accomplished. - Robert Frank
