Biography:

My name is Brenda Tate and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, not far from the town of Yarmouth. I'm a part-time writer (two poetry books published) and mostly-retired drama/English teacher. I've discovered photography - beyond just taking snapshots - only within the last few years and am working very hard to improve my skills. My favourite subjects include animals, birds, insects and flowers. I especially enjoy photographing the various species in their native environment whenever possible and have tried to enhance the wildlife habitat around my own home, with two ponds, several gardens, and a wetland bordering a small river. I'm really awkward when it comes to portraying people so I usually avoid them as subjects.

My photography may also be viewed on Webshots (username faranya100) and dpreview Olympus SLR challenges (faranya). I enjoy entering challenges, as well as offline photography competitions in my home province, which I view as great learning experiences.

I suspect I'll take awhile to fit in comfortably here and figure out the procedures for maintaining portfolios, entering challenges and so on. And I'm non-commercial, so I doubt I will try to sell prints for quite some time.
