Challenge: Best of 2011 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM
Location: Barrhaven (Half Moon Bay)
Date: Oct 12, 2011
Aperture: 6.3
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/1000
Date Uploaded: Feb 9, 2012

Shot with a Gitzo and Wimberly head. A 1.4x teleconverter was used. Effective focal length was 700mm.

I was as the edge of this man made pond. The Heron was about 150 feet away. He was fishing the shore line. So I set up and waited. He slowly made his way over. Giving me great shots. Unfortunately a lady and her kids screamed by. So he flew off, to the centre of the pond. Luckily I managed this shot, before the passer by. Not sure if it's My best of 2012. As the lighting was not the best. But I do love the memory and moment of that day. Fish, water spray, blink and sharpness and some blur. I'm happy...

Great stop action shot, the splash tells the story of the capture. I canĂ¢€™t wait to see the specifics on shutter speed, ISO etc. Nice shot!

Great capture (for you and the heron, not so much for the fish).

Excellent timing. I especially like how you can tell the fish is struggling to get away.

This is more or less the best of the wild life pictures in the challenge. Great clarity and movement. Super catch (pun intended!)

Stunning work, and the nictitating membrane just closing or opening over the eye. Image is cropped I think, but still good IQ.

Very nice action shot. The fish probably has had better days, but the bird will be happy with dinner!
