This is an orangutan, a largely herbivorous arboreal anthropoid ape. Taken at the Audubon zoo in the spring. This orang seems to enjoy watching the people from the ledge.

Orangutans are an endangered species, although humans, through hunting and destruction of the forest habitat, are their only significant enemy.
This orangutan is probably a male because of size and the fact that male orangutans have a beard and mustache. Females are smaller than the males.
They like to cover their heads from the rain and sun.

very cool looking creature... i find the background a little distracting, so maybe a vignette or something to isolate the subject could help
