This is a beeswax candle that I just snapped a few shots of because I really wanted to enter something in "Hope" but was running out of time. Did cropping in PSP.

Hi from the Critique Club!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The comments below have already mentioned this image's less than perfect attributes - the focus mainly, but this is actually not an unpleasant photograph. There's a wistful quality to it and the lenticular blurs from the spots of wax would have been lost if this were sharp.

Personally, I prefer it this way - it has more sugggestion of inner thought than if it were pin-sharp, and its warm glow is easy on the eye as if one is daydreaming.

That said, cramming a shot just in time for a challenge is not good practice to win challenges if that is your target! My advice would be don't submit a shot unless you're happy with it - as it stays in your profile page and you may grow to hate it - until you score better with other shots!

Cheers
Jon

Good thought, but it's all blurry. Try pre-focusing in a well-lit room, then turn the lights off.

I'm not sure what you were going for here. The candle doesn't say HOPE to me. Some pointers. Its quite a bit out of focus. Maybe you meant it to be but it doesn't work for me. A better composition would be to have it off center. Good luck on future entries.

not focussed very well

Photo was a little fuzzy.

Really badly focused

Couple of things with this photo, firstly how does a candle display hope? I can't see it here! Secondly it is quite badly out of focus making it quite unattractive.

The soft focus is nice, though I would have liked to see the flame itself in focus.

too blury

Very Blurry

The whole picture is blurry. Maybe that is what you were going for but IMO it would have made the photo better if the flame at least had been crisp.

I don't know if this was meant to be blurry, but I'm not sure it works.

Is strange to me to saw this image, very blured. If you try to get a soft focus image, can be you may use a piece of plastic or a filter to do so.

This needs to be much more sharply focused to resonate with me. Withut that, I can't see the tie in to the theme, "hope."

a hope candle? not sure i get what going in here.

I'm sure you will have other comments about the focus ... I'd really like to see more of it in this shot. Composition is good and the exposure level looks fine - I think it just needs something for the eye to latch onto.

Good idea, unfortunately out of focus.
08/24/2004 10:17:24 PM
It would've been nice to at least have the picture in-focus.

As for the theme, I don't understand the logic beind it...
08/24/2004 09:30:11 PM
umm... hey... don't mind me but... FOCUS!!!!
08/24/2004 09:27:03 PM
This needs better focus...
