I think there's a big difference between throwing a pair of scissors on the table vs working with lighting, composition, and maybe adding a few more elements into the scene. I don't follow you enough to know whether or not you like the studio shots, but IreneM's shot in this challenge is actually pretty good. To me she put some thought into her photograph.
Not trying to discount your entry, but I was hoping to give you a perspective on why you would have received a 5 or 6 for this shot. Of course, that kind of explanation was not asked for, so my apologies for doing so. |

The challenge here becomes this: how do you convey familiarity to those not native to the area? It's a beautiful shot, certainly not deserving the low scores, but I think what hurts it in a voting challenge is the lack of a quick link to the theme. |

Regardless of score, it's a beautiful image that you can be proud of! |

Subtle rarely resonates with voters. Lovely image, though. So peaceful and untouched. |

I can feel the weight of the snow on the branches. |

Gave it a 7 at the time, I think one has to sit and look with the stillness of the shot to really appreciate its worth. |

Lovely. That heavy snow (and more coming down, I think) - adds visual weight to the scene. |

WOW this is beautiful. Surprised by the low votes. It seems to have fit the challenge. Just don't understand votes. Nicely done. |

I think it's a lovely photo, it just didn't fit the challenge that well. |

Lovely scene!! The foreground framing really sets off the midground trees and background mountain slope. |

Don't remember this (and I didn't vote the challenge), but it's a stunning image regardless. |

> Wow, that is a lot of DNMC votes for a pretty good image with big rocks visible.
Their loss. It's a beautiful winter landscape. |

If there is a rock in this, it's buried under a stack of snow. I think the lack of a prominent element might hurt your score. I actually like the shot, despite the huge amount of white in the scene, it still feels balanced. |

Nice photo, but this is more about the snow and trees than rocks. |
