Greetings from the Critique Club!

Very nice capture of two cute boys, both obviously very different personality types. Like the angle of the heads, though would like to see the blond boy's eyes at teh camera. Nice dof and good focus, lighting needs a little work. I'm guessing your main light source is an off-camera flash to the right, which is doing a spectacular job of showing off the dark haired lad. (Very glad that you didn't use the on-camera flash, those are brutal!) However the little boy on the left needs some light too; his eyes look dull in comparison to his brother's. I understand that you probably don't have a 2nd flash, but reflectors are fairly inexpensive and do a wonderful job. If need be you can make one out of cardboard and highly reflective heat tape, which is bright silver and comes in a roll like duct tape; most hardware stores should have it. Even one of those big reflective thingies you put on your car's dash in the summertime to keep the heat out makes a handy reflector.

Otherwise a very sweet pic, and don't feel let down by the score at all. Free Studies are always pretty tough and year-end FSs are even tougher. So keep up the good work and maybe, just for fun, grab a reflector and try a reshoot, if the boys will hold still long enough! :-) You should notice quite a difference.

Feel free to PM me,

Susan

Cute kids.....I know these little ones sometimes don't always stay still for a portrait. You did really well.....I like it in black and white.

How cute! Very nice lighting. The difference in their gazes may be criticized, but it also may be a nice reflection of differences in personality.

would have been better if both were looking at the camera.
