Moody and emotional. The position of the shoulders does indeed invoke a feeling of hopelessness. The strong diagonal OOF log in the foreground is really unfortunate. Exposure seems perfect.

O.K. Now I'm crying. Very moving. Of course, I'd like to see more of the face, but I've photographed gorillas too, and they're too smart to pose for those of us who walk upright. 9

I voted lower because this isn't about hope.. but about the loss of it. Which doesn't fit the challenge in my eyes.
